Sports & Remedial Soft Tissue Therapy

Advanced soft tissue therapy isn’t just about treating the ‘bit that hurts’, it’s understanding what has caused it in the first place and where the dysfunction is truly coming from. This is done using an advanced initial assessment that gets to the route cause of the problem. From here I use advanced massage techniques such as MET, STR, advanced stretching and mobility and trigger point therapy.

If your goals are to reduce pain, improve mobility and flexibility, prevent injury and/or increase your sporting performance, then this is the option for you.

Dry Needling

Using fine, sterile acupuncture needles, dry needling is a precision technique that is targeted at myofascial trigger points. Unlike acupuncture that targets Chi/Ki (energy) and the meridian lines of the body, dry needling targets trigger points within the muscles, that are local to the site of dysfunction.

You may typically think of these as ‘knots’ but they are much more than that.

Trigger points can actually cause a referral pattern to other areas of the body and can be a great source of pain. If you’ve got a stubborn pain that won’t go away, and you’ve tried everything else then it could be a trigger point. This type of treatment (unlike traditional acupuncture) normally goes hand in hand with massage.

ScarWork Therapy

Scars are like icebergs, there is more below the surface than what you think. In fact, scars have a major impact on the whole of the body not just where the scar is located. Grab hold of your top now and twist in a circular motion. Can you see how it creates lines of tension through other parts of your top? That is what scars are doing to the tissue of your body!

The techniques I use for Scarwork are very gentle (this is what scar tissue prefers) and have a massive effect on the body. Scars treated include ‘minimal invasive surgery’ (keyhole), such as laparoscopy, shoulder arthroscopy etc; open surgeries such as C-Sections, hip replacements, knee replacements. Scars from trauma injuries such as dog bites, falls etc can also be treated. In fact the list is extensive, and it doesn’t matter if the scar is 8 weeks old or 18 years, it will have a positive effect.

Just like dry needling, ScarWork Therapy can be included alongside your soft tissue therapy treatment.

Exercise Prescription

If you’re trying to rehab back from an injury or just need some exercises to compliment your treatments and allow the changes to truly last, then I also offer exercise prescription as well. Soft tissue therapy and exercise go hand in hand, and it is important to combine the two to get a lasting result. This usually is part of your homecare, but can be incorporated into your treatment if required.
